Month: March 2006

  • There's been great happenings at the other house.   The tile guys have really been busy.   They've finished the floors in the downstairs bathroom, the kids' bathroom, and the laundry room.   They've put down most of the floor tiles in the master bath.   The tub and shower areas will take a lot of time, so it'll seem to slow down but there's really an awful lot of work they'll do.

I haven't been able to spend as much time over there as I would have liked this week.  Hubby's been needed elsewhere, and it's not conducive to anyone having little Monkey Boy wandering around in the middle of active construction.    I did manage to sneak a few hours and emptied the upstairs hall.   I also started cleaning the carpet in S's room.   I still need to move a few items from the center of the room and clean that area of carpet, hang her new shades, and assemble her bed.     I also need to devote a few hours to getting the ceiling in the master bedroom ready for the electrician to install the ceiling fan and light.   And I need to finish wallpapering the downstairs bath.   I started the wallpaper task late this afternoon, and Ahhh! I think it's going to look very nice.   I may get antsy and have to rearrange the cabinets to free up the one for the downstairs bath.   Once the walls are done I may have to set the new cabinet in the bathroom, just to see how it'll all look

    -----------------

On a very happy note....my little tinkerbell girl turned 5 years old today!   Wow, she's five.   Amazing, ain't it?!!

  • Life in puppydom has been just like...well...life with a puppy.    There's countless trips outside for potty breaks, numerous catching just as he's starting to squat and frantically running to the door, and several cleanups.   He's actually figured out that if he's going to piddle in the house that it's best to choose the hard floor instead of carpet (yaay!).   He's exceptionally cute, soft, and cuddly.   He's settling right in with our family and doing well with everybody but we have to watch him with little Monkey Boy.  They play like littermates/siblings and tend to get a little rough with each other.   Yeah, that's gotta stop.

We begin puppy obedience classes on Tuesday.   Not only did I enjoy those classes with the big puppy, it really helped in training both he and I.   Of course, he has totally forgotten how to "heel", as evidenced by his dragging me across the parking lot during our trip to the vet this week .    So maybe we need to practice that one a little more.

Anyway, puppy will begin classes.   I'm sad to learn that the woman who instructed our class last year is no longer conducting them.   She was a really neat gal and such a dog lover.    I'm sure the new instructor will be good too.

    --------------

On the house front, things have been a-happening again this week!  The construction rooms were all cleaned, windows and doors were taped off.   Everything has been primed and the ceilings have been painted.    All the tile and laminate flooring were delivered.

Today the electrician is working.    I need to get showered and when hubby returns from his morning chores, I need to go consult with the electrician.   Apparently they have selections for me to choose from for outlet and switch styles and colors!    Yep, that's exciting stuff for me!   Whoo hoo!

And since I'm starting to feel better, thanks to the wonders of modern pharmaceuticals that kick the crap outta germs (and subsequently the snot outta me...get it....snot )  I'm actually feeling kinda decent again.   I need to empty the upstairs hallway of the old part of the house so it can be re-painted and will match the new hallway.   That was supposed to be my task this week, but I was a bit too sick to do much.

I also plan to do a bit more tackling of eldest's room today too.    It's all painted and now needs the beautiful rose border hung.    Then I plan to shampoo the perimeter areas of the carpet, move some of the remaining furniture out of the center of the room, then shampoo the remainder.    There's also little stuff such as replacing the light shades on her ceiling fan, installing the new switchplates and outlet covers, cleaning up the windows, and hanging her new window shades.    I'm hoping to get all that done this weekend.  Because the stuff in the hallway has to go somewhere, and her room is the 'where' for right now

Then it'll be time to take a deep breath, focus, and then start getting Demon's room transformed.    Again, like her sister's room, it'll be a big bit of cleanup/emptying, fresh paint on ceiling and walls, new border and curtains, and then shampoo carpets.   If all goes well, that'll be about a week.   If it's doesn't go as well as I plan, it'll take about 2 weeks (like the other rooms have )

But it'll all be absolutely wonderful and I should be waking up in my renovated home sometime in mid-May!!

  • The craziness has begun!!

He came home with us on Saturday and has adjusted pretty well, though at times he's not very impressed with the camera.

  • Oh my.    On days when I'm sleep-deprived and overdosed on coffee, I tend to become a little slap-happy and downright silly.

Some guy named Denny learned that today.

When he mis-dialed a phone number and reached my cell phone instead.

Apparently he was calling a woman (his wife) and didn't quite make the connection that my voice doesn't belong to her.

He didn't identify himself, just started in asking "what are you doing?", then saying that he was still in bed (I'm assuming he works nights), had just awakened, and was calling to see if the woman would come home and join him.    I'm assuming for ~~lunch~~

Poor guy.   I think he will never dial the phone again without being absolutely sure just what numbers his fingers are pressing.   He never expected to reach someone like me on a silly, sleep-deprived, smart-aleck kinda day.

Hubby and I are still laughing and giggling.

  • And as if life isn't crazy enough around here, we've decided to add a bit more crazy to it.

This little guy isn't quite ready to come home with us, but in another week or two  he'll be living here.

Our Anatolian is doing very well, but I feel he needs a playmate and some canine company.

  •

Here's a photo of the house on Feb 24th.   Not much has changed since then as the weather hasn't allowed the stuff to be sprayed on the porch area.

  • I had a huge entry typed out earlier this week.   And then something cyber-blinked and my words went "poof".

Anyway, I'm around.  Just haven't had the inclincation to type out.   I really should updated this more.   Maybe I'll try to make an effort.

Things have been kinda eventful.   Hubby landed in the hospital again just after Christmas, after suffering through the holiday.    Kidney stones are pretty horrible little buggers, and stubborn ones require surgical removal.   Ugh.   But he's been fine ever since, thank goodness.

    -----------

Stuff as been getting done on the house.   The exterior isn't complete just yet, but it's really looking like something other than a tyvek-ed shack

This was taken in late January.  The rest of the siding has been installed and the porch area has been prepped for a stucco-like product to be applied.

In just the last few days the remaining drywall was delivered and hung.   The finishing crew is working right now.    I emptied out J's bedroom and began it's transformation.   We're waiting for the carpeting to arrive and be installed, then it's just a matter of hanging window treatments and furniture.    S and I spent some time clearing out her room.   Another day and we'll have it ready to begin transformation in there too.   C and I have selected all the things to transform her room as well, and I had someone come and piece in a bit of drywall where the attic door was removed.    Yes, it's all so exciting for us!
